The RG8870 features a 4mm thick AAA flamed maple top on a chambered alder body bolted to a maple and wenge neck with an asymmetric 24-fret Macassar ebony fingerboard with pearl and abalone Tree of Life inlays. Components include DiMarzio pickups with The Tone Zone and PAF 36th Anniversary humbuckers flanking a True Velvet single-coil, a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge, Gotoh tuning machines and Gotoh Strap lock pins.
